The Crevalle jack is found on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean from Portugal to Angola and Nova Scotia to Uruguay. It also occurs in the western Mediterranean and in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Its distribution in the Caribbean is limited to the largest islands (i.e., the Greater Antilles).

Adult Crevalle jacks swim in fast-moving schools in open water over outer reefs and the continental shelf. Juveniles are abundant in estuaries and inshore areas near sand beaches and seagrass beds.

• The crevalle jack can reach four feet in length and 70 lbs.
• It is a popular sport fish because of its strength and fighting ability.
• This jack also is an important food fish in some areas.
• The crevalle jack will often make a grunting sound when caught and brought aboard the boat.
• Large adults will often be seen swimming alone rather than in a school.
