You are invited to join us for our second “Oceans & Autos” Classic Car Show at the Georgia Aquarium, featuring amazing museum-quality American and European classic cars from the 1930s to the present day. This year’s collection includes one of the rarest and most extraordinary examples of American automobile design, the 1961 Mako Shark concept vehicle - the inspiration for the 1963-1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
Saturday, October 22 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sunday, October 23 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Georgia Aquarium Oceans Ballroom
The Mako Shark is considered one of the most influential concept vehicles in history. The Mako Shark was designed to resemble a real shark, with a streamlined body, mouth, gills and a paint scheme that graduated from blue/gray on the top to silver/white on the bottom, mimicking the coloration of the shark that inspired it. Memorable features include a sharp, menacing “nose” and four-into-two side pipes. The Mako Shark heavily influenced the body design of Corvettes for decades. The vehicle is generously loaned for display at this show by the General Motors Heritage Museum of Sterling Heights, Michigan. Rarely on exhibit anywhere outside of the Heritage Museum.
In addition to the Mako Shark, collectors from across the Southeast will display nearly 40 exceptionally rare examples of global automotive design and manufacturing. These valuable vehicles will be on display in the Oceans Ballroom and throughout the Aquarium, with many of the exhibitors available to discuss their cars with guests. Some of the many other rare, museum-quality vehicles guests will see include:
- 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang Prototype (The one remaining car of five ever built, with a 4-speed transmission and a Holman-Moody 427 port side oiler.)
- 1965 Shelby Fast Back
- 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428
