About Georgia Aquarium's research and conservation programs:
Whale Sharks
Georgia Aquarium is a proud partner for whale shark research around the globe – including at Georgia Aquarium and in Quintana Roo, Mexico. While they are the largest fish in the sea, little is known about whale sharks. With your support and adoption, we are able to learn about these amazing animals through our 4R Program.

With your adoption, Georgia Aquarium is able to pioneer critical whale shark programs, including: population surveys, visual and satellite tag programs, dietary evaluations, environmental impacts and field research. Your adoption aids our efforts to better understand the whale sharks in our care and to share critical information on caring for the species at large.

Dolphins
Georgia Aquarium is at the helm of dolphin conservation! Through our Conservation Field Station in Marineland, Florida, we are participating in population studies, marine mammal stranding response and educational outreach programs with local schools. At Marineland and Georgia Aquarium’s AT&T Dolphin Tales, we invite the public into the magical world of dolphins, allowing for a personal connection to these majestic species. Through our 4R Program, Senior Vice President Dr. Greg Bossart conducts annual health assessments for dolphins living in the Indian River Lagoon. These animals are excellent sentinels of environmental health because they are permanent residents of the lagoon and are at the top of the food chain, so they can indicate problems below them in the ecosystem. They face a number of threats from pollution and emerging infectious diseases. Through your adoption you are helping support this work.

With your plush adoption, you are helping Georgia Aquarium remain a pioneer in aquatic research. As animals are living creatures, our living collection will remain at Georgia Aquarium under the expert care of our biologists, and no ownership rights are conferred through your adoption of a whale shark or dolphin plush.
