uShaka Marine World

At the center of Durban was a slum that the city decided to turn around. They invested $110 million to build uShaka Marine World. It parallels Georgia Aquarium’s story, except they didn’t have Bernie Marcus. They had tax dollars used to revitalize the area. Not only is the facility impressive, with dolphins, seals, penguins, water slides, shopping and a great beach, but the staff here is equally impressive in hospitality and professionalism. They are very proud of their facility, but they are extremely proud of their manta ray, Nandi. As well they should be, in that they rescued and rehabilitated her.
