Aqua Vino 2013

Georgia Aquarium Celebrates Eighth Annual Aqua Vino

Proceeds to benefit whale shark research

ATLANTA (Sept. 23, 2013) – Georgia Aquarium’s most unforgettable event, Aqua Vino, offers guests the opportunity to savor more than 200 fine wines, sample cuisine from Atlanta’s top restaurants and mingle with exotic animals from around the world. The eighth annual bash benefits whale shark research and will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.

Aqua Vino’s Grand Tasting begins at 7 p.m. and provides guests with an extraordinary evening featuring the backdrop of the Aquarium’s Oceans Ballroom and the Aquarium’s six distinct, vibrant galleries that feature over 500 species of aquatic life. The night also includes amazing live, silent and wine auctions. As a memento, guests will receive a collectable Reidel wine glass to enjoy wines throughout and after the event.

VIP guests enjoy exclusive access to Aqua Vino that includes early admission and exclusive access to the VIP lounge, offering reserve wines, cocktails, exceptional cheeses and a VIP gift bag. These guests will also get the opportunity to be the first to sample all wines and restaurants and participate in behind-the-scenes tours throughout the evening. Red carpet arrival and photo opportunities for VIP tasting begins at 6 p.m.

As Georgia Aquarium’s largest fundraiser, proceeds from this year’s Aqua Vino event will support the Aquarium’s whale shark research and conservation efforts. Georgia Aquarium staff and scientists have teamed up with Mexican researchers and universities to protect and expand the understanding of whale sharks off the Yucatan Peninsula. This area is a phenomenal place for whale shark aggregation, drawing hundreds each year. This gives researchers a great opportunity to study their behavior, food sources and migration habits.

“Georgia Aquarium is becoming a leading facility for aquatic animal conservation and research, and fundraisers like Aqua Vino help to further our efforts on behalf of aquatic animals,” said Dr. Alistair Dove, director of research and conservation at Georgia Aquarium. “By combining field research with the study of on-site animals in a controlled environment, the Aquarium is contributing to the advancement of human knowledge in the area of animal science.”

Tickets for the Grand Tasting are $125 for Georgia Aquarium members and $150 for non-members; Tickets for the exclusive VIP Tasting are $325. Event attendees must be 21 years of age for entry. This event is made possible by Celebrity Cruises, Coca-Cola, AIG and Northern Georgia Acura. To purchase tickets or find more information about Aqua Vino visit or call (404) 581-4000.
