Georgia Aquarium Dolphin Gallery on Track for 2011 Opening
Largest Aquarium expansion in history to debut next year
Atlanta (October 8, 2010) –
Georgia Aquarium announced today that its expansive new dolphin gallery will officially open to the public in 2011. The new $110 million addition will be the Aquarium’s largest expansion to date.
Development and construction of the dolphin gallery addition was launched more than two years ago. At the time of its conception, a targeted time frame of late 2010 was chosen for the grand opening to the public. This targeted opening period was conceived as a best-case scenario, with other, later potential opening dates also being considered.
“We originally hoped that the new dolphin gallery would open later this year,” said Bernie Marcus, Benefactor, Chairman and CEO, Georgia Aquarium. “One thing we have learned from other top entertainment venues is that preparation is key. Since opening in 2005, we have always delivered the WOW factor, and we intend to do it this time as well. Opening the dolphin gallery in 2011 will give us the time we need to deliver a top-quality experience in keeping with those our guests have come to expect.”
