Atlanta, GA (February 14, 2005) – Are you looking for a unique and long-lasting gift to give to that special person in your life? Do you need an anniversary present? Is your child's birthday coming soon? Perhaps you want to thank co-workers or clients for a job well done. The new Georgia Aquarium has the perfect gift, unlike any ever before seen in Atlanta. Utilizing innovative and interactive technology, the Aquarium is selling FishScales, individually personalized lighted fish on an 80-foot wall in a high visibility area of the new building. Each FishScale, which can be purchased for a $55 tax-deductible contribution to the Georgia Aquarium, can have a name or personal message placed on it. "The FishScales wall is captivating, attractive and an exciting opportunity to own a piece of the Georgia Aquarium," said Bernie Marcus, whose gift of $200 million enabled the creation of what will be the largest aquarium in the United States. "From a distance, visitors will think they are viewing one of our exhibits; they will quickly discover that the FishScales wall is an abstract aquatic image, constantly moving and shifting like the ocean current." Marcus explained that when the Aquarium opens in late 2005, visitors will be able to type in the name of a FishScales recipient and the location of the FishScales will be identified by blinking lights on the wall. "My goal has always been for the Georgia Aquarium to provide education, conservation and research capabilities, as well as an entertaining experience for every Aquarium guest," Marcus added. "The wall will delight those who have purchased FishScales for themselves or others, and will mesmerize guests with its color, light and movement." For a limited time, FishScales can be purchased online at www.georgiaaquarium.org. There is a demonstration on the website, and once the FishScales purchase is complete, confirmation will be emailed in return. Also, a personalized certificate will be sent to the purchaser for each FishScale ordered. Purchases can also be made at 1-877-434-7442. Hours of operation are 9 AM to 5 PM EST, Monday through Friday. FishScales can be purchased individually or in quantity. FishScales purchased at the same time should be located near each other on the wall. Proceeds from FishScales will be used to support the mission of the Georgia Aquarium, "to be an entertaining, educational and scientific institution featuring exhibits and programs of the highest standards, offering engaging and exciting guest experiences and promoting the conservation of aquatic biodiversity throughout the world." The 430,000 square-foot Georgia Aquarium will be one of the largest and most exciting in the world, featuring more than 55,000 animals from 500 species in more than 5 million gallons of water.
