Atlanta (July 17, 2007) – The Georgia Aquarium has been named Venue of the Year by the Georgia Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (GaMPI). The Aquarium received this honor at the GaMPI’s annual Phoenix Awards, held June 27 at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel. “We are proud to be the recipient of the 2007 GaMPI Phoenix Award,” said Will Ramsey, director of group sales at the Georgia Aquarium. “It is an honor to have our colleagues in the meetings and event industry recognize us with the Venue of the Year award. It proves that Bernie Marcus’ vision to build the Oceans Ballroom and pair it with the culinary creations of Wolfgang Puck Catering was indeed a winning combination.” This is the first time the Georgia Aquarium has been nominated for the Phoenix Award. Other sites nominated for Venue of the Year were the Doubletree Atlanta NW and The Sheraton & Westin Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort.
