Georgia Aquarium, in partnership with Kroger, is proud to announce a release of limited edition reusable bags created from recycled plastic bottles. A portion of sales will be donated back to Georgia Aquarium’s global research and conservation efforts and will showcase animals at the Aquarium. The first edition will feature one of the Aquarium’s marquee animals, whale sharks! The new bag is set to make its debut in Kroger stores October 2019.
In 2018, Kroger announced their plan to phase out single use plastic bags by 2025 as part of their Zero Hunger/Zero Waste plan. It is estimated that 100 billion single-use plastic bags are thrown away in the U.S. every year. Only five percent of this 100 billion are recycled annually in America. Through this partnership, it is projected that 3,000,000 plastic bags will be conserved with the release of each reusable bag.
Each bag is made from recycled plastic bottles and can be purchased at 150+ Kroger stores. These reusable bags have the capacity to hold roughly 3x the amount of produce that a plastic bag can. Georgia Aquarium strives to make a difference by working in collaboration with various organizations to protect our ocean and local ecosystems. By purchasing this bag, you are reducing the amount of plastic waste and helping support Georgia Aquarium’s research and conservation initiatives around the world.
