This program offers Interns hands-on experience in Georgia Aquarium’s second largest habitat – Sharks. Interns will work directly with the Fishes & Invertebrates Team to support the daily care of the aquarium’s collection, including a variety of elasmobranch species in the Sharks gallery.
Our aquarists work together to ensure the health and well-being of our animals as well as the maintenance and display of our exhibits. This internship is designed to be an experiential and professional learning experience – you will be introduced to the theories and literature behind aquarium husbandry and get daily hands-on practice to ensure a well-rounded intern experience!
Upon completion, candidates will possess a strong understanding of the following: skills in feeding, handling record-keeping, and general husbandry of a large aquatic exhibit; understand the importance of water quality and the life support components; maintenance of exhibits, components, and the equipment used to keep them all running; importance of behavior management, enrichment, and animal training for fishes in human care. Although we do work with veterinarians, this is not a veterinarian internship, nor do we work with any birds or mammals.
Georgia Aquarium’s Sharks internship is located at the Georgia Aquarium and our offsite warehouse located west of the Georgia Aquarium. Interns will need to provide own reliable transportation for this internship.
