Whale Sharks Arrive

In their letter to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution this week supporting the Georgia Aquarium, Georgia Tech biology professors Mark Hay and Doug Snell quoted Senegalese conservationist Baba Dioum who said, “In the end, we will only conserve what we love. We will only love what we understand. We will only understand what we are taught.” Since opening in November 2005, the Aquarium has provided more than 5,000,000 visitors, including more than 100,000 school children and teachers, with a personal connection to aquatic life. The Georgia Aquarium extends weekly Jazz Journeys

Due to the success of the Georgia Aquarium’s Jazz Journeys during May’s 30th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival, the Aquarium is extending the program through the summer. From 7:30-10 p.m. each Friday night through August 31, local jazz musicians will perform sounds to calm the spirit and arouse the senses while you enjoy some of nature’s most enchanting aquatic animals in all five of our galleries. Cocktails and a variety of food items will be available for purchase. Admission for Georgia Aquarium Annual Pass holders is free. Make a Difference with Sponsored Admissions

Seven lucky children from Atlanta were able to attend the Aquarium’s Camp H20 summer camp this year because of a generous contribution from Frazier & Deeter, LLC, a leading certified accounting firm in the Southeast. “Because stewardship is one of the core values of Frazier & Deeter, LLC, we wanted to give back to the community, ”said a spokesperson for Frazier & Deeter, LLC.

This contribution to the Aquarium’s Sponsored Admissions program, among many others from local individuals, foundations and organizations including Mr. & Mrs. Timothy Pakenham, The Coca-Cola Foundation, Gordy Foundation and the Morgens West Foundation, have funded more than 5,000 families and children since our opening. Many of the recipients of this gift have limited resources, or are facing physical challenges that may otherwise prohibit them the opportunity to learn and become engaged at the world’s largest aquarium.
