Atlanta, GA (May 16, 2005) – Less than three months since he announced the creation of a fundraising program for the new Georgia Aquarium, benefactor Bernie Marcus is issuing "last call" on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of the Aquarium. Marcus said he expects sales to reach the cutoff point before the end of this week. "We are thrilled with Georgia's response to FishScales," Marcus said, "although we were certain that people would embrace the concept and want to be a permanent part of this special addition to the community." FishScales are individually personalized fish on an 80-foot interior aquarium wall. Each FishScale, which can be purchased for a $55 tax-deductible contribution to the Georgia Aquarium, can have a name or personal message placed on it. Visitors will be able to type in the name of a FishScale recipient and the location of the FishScale will be identified by blinking lights on the wall. FishScales can be purchased online at www.georgiaaquarium.org or by calling 1-877-434-7442 between the hours of 9 AM to 5 PM EST, Monday through Friday. A personalized certificate will be sent to the purchaser for each FishScale ordered. Proceeds from FishScales will be used to support the mission of the Georgia Aquarium, "to be an entertaining, educational and scientific institution featuring exhibits and programs of the highest standards, offering engaging and exciting guest experiences and promoting the conservation of aquatic biodiversity throughout the world." Last week, Marcus announced the official opening date of the $200 million Georgia Aquarium — Wednesday, November 23, 2005. The 430,000 square-foot aquarium will be one of the largest and most exciting in the world, featuring more than 55,000 animals from 500 species in more than 5 million gallons of water.
