Parents Magazine Names Georgia Aquarium One of "The 10 Best Aquariums For Kids"

Facility earns top honors in nationwide ranking for family friendly attractions

Atlanta (July 17, 2007) – Parents magazine has named the Georgia Aquarium one of “The 10 Best Aquariums for Kids” in the United States. The article appears in the August issue of Parents, available on newsstands beginning today. “We are honored to be recognized by Parents for our commitment to aquatic conservation, education and entertainment,” said aquarium Executive Director Jeff Swanagan. “We hope the Georgia Aquarium continues to provide a setting unlike any other where people of all ages can learn about aquatic life in an entertaining, hands-on environment.” Parents praised the Georgia Aquarium for its “unparalleled display of sea life, two gift shops, a food court, and – attention, PTA moms! – a school program (the Learning Loop) that attracted nearly 55,000 children last year.” The magazine also loved the facility’s Ocean Voyager habitat, touch pools, crawl-through tunnels, pop-up windows, playground, behind-the-scenes tours for families and Camp H2O, a weeklong summer day camp for kids ages 5 to 14. To develop their top 10 list, Parents looked at Web site visits to the top aquariums, took recommendations from a panel of experts and conducted a survey more than 60 U.S. aquariums to evaluate the number, creativity, educational value of each facility's interactive features, the quality and kid-friendliness of the aquarium’s exhibits, services, staff and educators, special programs and conservation efforts.
