Sherry Gardner

Vice President of Development

Sherry brings 30 years of nonprofit fundraising leadership to Georgia Aquarium. She previously held senior roles at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, The Galloway School, Georgia Tech, and The University of Memphis Foundation, as well as the USA International Ballet Competition. She holds degrees from Texas Woman’s University and the University of Southern Mississippi.

Roisin Florence

Director of Development

Roisin, originally from Scotland, holds degrees from the University of Paisley and Georgia State. With nearly 20 years in fundraising, she has led development at the Aquarium since 2010, supporting its Research & Conservation, Education, and Military Salute programs. She lives in Atlanta with her husband and two daughters.

Audrey Hibbits

Manager, Development

Audrey, from Raleigh, studied Art History at the University of Georgia. She joined the Aquarium in 2016 and is now Development Manager, overseeing the Annual Fund and Anchor Society. With nearly 10 years in nonprofits and earlier work in Atlanta and Charleston galleries, she lives in Inman Park with her boyfriend and their dog.

Deianna Neal

Assistant, Development

Deianna, from Los Angeles, studied Sociology and Anthropology at Spelman College. After working in case management, hospitality, and customer service, she pursued her passion for Museum Studies and is completing a master’s at Johns Hopkins. Now a Georgia resident, she lives in the Atlanta area with her family and two children.

Jason Bush

Manager, Military Salute

Originally from South Florida, he spent five years in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He later worked nearly a decade as a Firefighter/Medic with Dekalb County Fire Rescue and more than 10 years with the Wounded Warrior Project. Passionate about the healing power of water and nature, he now supports the Aquarium’s Military Salute program. He lives in Newnan with his wife and children.

Bailey Dawson

Director of Education

Bailey, from Selma, Alabama, earned a degree in Health Education from Alabama State University. He spent 16 years in education with the Cobb County School District before joining Georgia Aquarium in 2019 as Director of Education. He also holds a master’s in Instructional Technology and a specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University.

Lisa Hoopes, PhD

Senior Director of Research & Conservation

Dr. Lisa Hoopes, Senior Director of Research & Conservation, oversees research programs, clinical nutrition, and diet development for Georgia Aquarium’s animal collection. A physiological ecologist, her work spans species from sharks and dolphins to penguins and sea dragons, with a focus on nutrition and energetics. She earned her Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, completed a post-doctoral fellowship with Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and continues to teach and mentor graduate students while remaining active in several professional associations.
