Rivers are a source of life for animals, people and cultures throughout the world. In the reimagined Southern Company River Scout gallery, you’ll explore the wide diversity of animals found in the rivers of Africa, South America, Asia and right here in Georgia.
Georgia Aquarium’s only freshwater gallery features river creatures including alligator snapping turtles, archerfish, Asian small-clawed otters and the gallery’s newest residents, binturongs. The otters now have double the space to roam, with two overhead trails that put you right in their world, and a brand-new Canopy Walk brings you even closer to the action. Kids can even surround themselves safely with piranha and get a close-up look at the razor sharp teeth of these voracious predators. You’ll also notice new theming and lighting throughout, hands-on signage that brings the science to life, and a river cleanup game where you can put your own conservation skills to the test.
Perhaps most importantly, everyone who visits Southern Company River Scout will leave with a greater appreciation for freshwater environments everywhere.
