ATLANTA (November 9, 2018) – A new showcase exhibit will be unveiled on Veterans Day at Georgia Aquarium. The Military Salute exhibit will highlight the Aquarium’s Military Salute programming for veterans and active duty military, made possible by founding support from The Home Depot Foundation. This new display can be seen in the Ocean Voyager Built by The Home Depot exhibit near the ‘Watch For Divers’ bubble window and is included in general admission.

“We introduced our Military Salute programming to thank all those who have served our country,” said Hiroshi Okuda, senior director of sponsorship and corporate partnerships at Georgia Aquarium. “This programming would not have been possible without the dedicated support from The Home Depot Foundation and we are thankful for their continued support to our programming, veterans, and military families.”

Georgia Aquarium’s Military Salute programming offers the Veterans Immersion Program, Gold Star Families, and Military Mondays. The Veterans Immersion Program launched in 2008 with Military Salute forming in 2017. Along with private support, The Home Depot Foundation has been a sponsor of the Veterans Immersion Program and is the founding sponsor partner for the overall Military Salute Programming.

“Giving Back and Doing the Right Thing are two of the core values at The Home Depot. Giving back to veterans is personal to our organization as more than 35,000 of our associates have served in the military. We are thrilled to have worked closely with our hometown partners at the Georgia Aquarium and we hope that this exhibit positive impacts all attendees and recipients.”

Georgia Aquarium’s Veterans Immersion Program provides adjunct rehabilitation and reintegration therapy to wounded, ill, and injured members of the Armed Forces by getting participants in the Aquarium’s 6.3-million-gallon exhibit: Ocean Voyager Built by The Home Depot. A specialized team of Dive Masters lead the group through a peaceful swim or dive in the exhibit. Gold Star Families allows individuals and groups who had a family member killed in action to visit Georgia Aquarium and participate in a variety of activities. In addition, Military Mondays is open to all military personnel and provides free admission and discounts throughout November and December to active and retired members of the military.
